A warning before diving into this review – start from book one, you will get important backstory, and get to know the characters better. You will also find yourself addicted to this series and unable to put it down (and ready to grab the next one in the series as soon as you finish processing the one you just finished). Pierce spins a captivating tale, with complex characters that are both flawed and growing as you watch the story unfold. The descriptions transport you to the unique world that surrounds you, and it’s so easy to forget you aren’t right there while reading. There is also a major twist that will hit you hard when you get to it, I definitely didn’t see it coming! A final note – I loved getting to see things from a different POV, it was a change from previous books, but worked very well. Cannot recommend nearly enough if you enjoy dark, epic fantasy with complex and well-developed characters, and an amazing world.

Real people seldom think they’re monsters. My cat, however, knows exactly what he is. He just leans into being the god of mischief and evil.
