Disclaimer: Greek Mythology was my first exposure to non-Christian mythos, and I took a class on it in college, although that class was fairly introductory. Most of my research has been on my own, so you can imagine how excited I was to get my hands on this book. I’ll never turn down the chance to learn more about mythology, and this book was a great guide, and went more in-depth than most introductory books do, although it wasn’t a definitive one. One of the things I truly appreciate about this is the historical context that everything is put in. It’s something I’ve noticed is often lacking from introductory books, but is an important aspect when you’re looking at the myths themselves, as it can change your perspective on them. The section on gods and goddesses focuses on a key few, but has an extensive list of other immortals, breaking them up into the realm or greater classification (like titans) that they’re grouped under. I found some immortals I wasn’t familiar with, and the extensive bibliography gives excellent resources for further research, including some websites I recognize and have used.
