Pagan Portals – Sulis
Solar Goddess of the Spring Waters

by Rachel Patterson
Sulis is one of the very ancient English goddesses. From evidence found we know that she was worshipped at the hot springs in Bath, in the UK, going back to at least the Mesolithic period. What we know about her can only be gleaned from the archaeological finds at the Roman Baths in Bath and a few mentions in ancient Roman documents. What we do know is that she must have been extremely powerful, and her presence continues to carry that energy forward. The historical information in this book is drawn from archaeological finds and academic viewpoints from experts in their field. Little or nothing is known or has been found about the goddess herself, or how she was honoured. Drawing upon personal experience, this book gives you an introduction to connect with Sulis yourself and discover and create your own relationship with her. Let me introduce you to the solar goddess of the hot spring waters.
REVIEW
5 out of 5
This was well-researched, with a heavy addition of the author’s personal experiences, combining to make a helpful introductory tome for any who wish to work with this little-known goddess. I was absolutely fascinated with the history section, and how much has been gleaned by way of archaeology and what remains from the Romans in writing. It’s clear Patterson has put a lot of work into researching, condensing the information, and making it easy for the lay reader (like myself) to absorb and understand. The ways to connect with Sulis, her correspondences, and meditations were very helpful. I love the vivid imagery the meditations invoke, it feels like stepping through a real portal. And I’ll definitely be adding the recipes to my list of things to try! Of course, there’s an extensive bibliography, should you want to do your own further research!
