Return of the Starchild
The Divine Inheritance #1

by Catriona Murphy
Inheritance can be a costly thing…
If it wasn’t enough being adopted into an abusive home, Iliana is forced to question everything when a dark creature appears in her town of Walkers Fall, and tries to kill her.
Whisked away into the Otherworld, where faeries guard gates to other domains, a mad queen reigns and wild bandits roam freely, she finds herself chased continuously by an unknown enemy in a foreign world. Knowing she cannot trust anyone yet must question everything she knows about herself when she develops peculiar powers.
Realising she finally has a chance to find her real family, she seeks them out. But will the truth she’s yearned for so long offer closure, or unfold an existence paved with strife?
Her inheritance, Iliana may find, could cost her more than anything she’s ever endured.
REVIEW
4 out of 5
This was an interesting opening to a new fantasy series. I liked the premise, and enjoyed the plot, but I’m a little on the fence about the characters. I thought the world building was pretty good, and I hope we get to explore more of it in book two. That said, I took a star because I didn’t really love the characters, but I didn’t completely hate them either. I think some more character growth would’ve helped push me one way or the other, depending on the path the character took. Furthermore, I will mention the ending leaves you wanting more – so if loose ends aren’t your cup of tea, you might want to skip this one.
