Reflections: The Paintings of Basil Campbell

Art

by Basil Campbell

Self-taught Jamaican artist Basil Campbell paints the world as he sees it – moody landscapes, wild animals, sunrises, and yachts at harbor among them – often from scenes captured through the lens of a camera, or from memories of his native Jamaica. Sometimes, his muses are found in his own backyard – like the ducks and the pond at the golf course in his neighborhood, or the wild animals featured in the nature shows he likes to watch on TV.

Whatever the inspiration, their reflection on Basil Campbell’s canvas – or wood – is sure to be colorful, detailed, and evocative.

We invite you to have a cup of coffee or tea, sit back, and relax, as you enter the artistry of Basil Campbell’s Reflections.

REVIEW

5 out of 5

This is a beautiful collection of paintings that would make a great addition to any art lover’s books. The paintings are a mix of landscape with the occasional person or animal, still life, and more abstract pieces. There’s a little explanation under the title of each painting, explaining the inspiration and how it connects to the artist. I felt like I was not only getting to enjoy Campbell’s art, but also getting to know him a bit over the course of the book. There’s a short introduction talking about how he got started, and later a brief biography. Honestly, I think this would be the perfect coffee table book to share with guests when they visit!
