When you open this book you dive into a story with extensive world-building, angels, demons, and those in-between, quite a few characters you’ll love – and a killer cliffhanger to wrap it all up. Raya is smart, strong, independent, and has her world turned upside down. Marcus is strong, protective, and at times incredibly frustrating. The dynamics between the two ebb and flow, but is fun to watch. It’s clear Ash has put a lot of work into the world-building, creating a whole society of heavenly and demonic, meshed seamlessly into modern society. I appreciated the glossary at the start, it helps before diving headfirst into everything, and makes it so there aren’t huge information dumps in the story itself, while still keeping the reader informed. The story itself moves along at a smooth pace, and keeps you engaged from cover to cover. I can’t wait to see where book two will take me!
