Review: The Power of Synne

The Power of Synne

Believe in Destiny Book 2

by LP O’Bryan

Magnus has disappeared, and the truth about my bloodline still eludes me.

I’m preparing for our marriage, so the timing is not perfect when I’m called away to help at a difficult birth.

When I return, Magnus is gone. Soon after, I’m ordered before Dublin’s King. We’ve been refugees here since the winter.

The woman I helped has died. I will have to leave Dublin. The daughter of the king takes me to a seer who can help bring forth the powers I was supposed to inherit from my mother. We travel together back to England to look for my sister, not for Magnus.

You can guess who we find. A confrontation with Odo, William the Conqueror’s brother, follows. We are about to become captives, when something powerful happens. Something I never expected. Something that changes our fate. And then my bloodline is revealed.

Don’t miss the thrilling second part of Synne’s story.

REVIEW

5 out of 5

The first book felt like a whirlwind, and Synne’s life hasn’t become much calmer. Magnus has gone MIA, and Synne is once again forced to be on the move. But with this installment, some new information comes to light. O’Bryan did an excellent job of pulling me back into this magical version of history, with Synne and her sisters as unforgettable FMCs leading the way. I’d been wondering if Synne’s powers were going to manifest after she was left without them in book one. Her sisters are also busy navigating their own dangerous lives, all with the goal of reuniting eventually. The multiple POVs give the story quite a bit of depth, and serve to draw you further into the story. The real question is – when are we getting book three, because I’m not ready for the adventure to be over!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Who is Laurence O’Bryan?

I am a survivor. I grew up in Ireland. My roots go back to my grandfathers’ farm deep in the Mountains of Mourne, near the Silent Valley, in County Down, Northern Ireland.

I went to school in Dublin, drank way too much, studied English and history, then business, then IT at Oxford University. While a student, I worked as a kitchen porter in a club near the Bank of England. Later I worked in IT marketing for 25 years, much of that time in London.

The Istanbul Puzzle was my first published novel (Jan, 2012,) The Jerusalem Puzzle was my second (Jan, 2013,) The Manhattan Puzzle my third (Aug, 2014.) The Nuremberg Puzzle (April, 2016) the fourth and The Cairo Puzzle (Aug 2018) completed the series.

In 2007 I won the Outstanding Novel Submitted award at the Southern California writer’s conference. The Istanbul Puzzle was shortlisted for Irish Crime Novel of 2012.

My research has taken me all over the world, from San Francisco to deep in the Arab world. I still enjoy looking at the stars and listening to the stories of strangers.
