First, I want to warn you – some of the abuse scenes in this can get a bit graphic, and if you’ve lived through domestic abuse, you might find those scenes difficult to read. Now that that’s out of the way – I was roped in from the start. Baxter got my heart racing and breaking right from the first page. I’ve known women like Maria, but not all of them got out in one piece and started a better life. She’s a believable character, who finds herself in a tough position. Out of the frying pan and into the fire, as it were, with a brief reprieve in between. The story moves along at a smooth pace, with characters you’ll love, and love to hate. If you enjoy psychological thrillers, you’re going to enjoy this one!
