REVIEW

4 out of 5

A good read, but best enjoyed over time. This is definitely a book where you’re meant to read a little, ruminate a little, and then read a little more after applying what you’ve already read to your life. If you try to read this cover to cover you’ll likely find yourself getting a bit frustrated (I did until I took a step back and slowed down). If you’re willing to take the slow route I think you’ll get a lot out of this book. With a variety of things included, there’s a bit of something for everyone, whether you prefer poetry or prose. A great reminder that a little kindness added to the world can go a long way, because you never know when your world will suddenly change forever, and that kindness someone else shares could brighten your day.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Anita Neilson is an author, spiritual poet and blogger. A graduate in three modern languages and with careers in commerce and education behind her, she now writes for mind, body, spirit and chronic illness magazines.

Her debut book, Acts of Kindness from your Armchair, is a practical guide to the ways in which thoughts, words and acts of kindness, both inward and towards the wider world, can create real change. This toolkit of ideas and practices arose from the author’s personal experiences in her quest to find a new purpose in life, despite health limitations, through the power of kindness.

Her second book, Rose Petals Floating Downstream, is a tender collection of meditative spiritual verse, offering solace in a fractious world, immersion in tranquil distant lands, and opening of eyes and heart to new faith-filled ways of being. This beautiful compilation is available now from Amazon in paperback and ebook.

Spiritual literary influences include: The Bhagavad Gita, Paramahansa Yogananda, Eknath Easwaran among others. The best thing about being a writer for Anita is being in the ‘flow’. She views writing as a kind of spiritual practice, a meditation in action. When words flow easily, time stands still or zooms into fast-forward. When writer’s block strikes, she goes for a short walk with the dog in the field across from her home and finds inspiration among the horses, deer, field mice, buzzards and all sorts of trees. The healing power of the wind is great too, as it blows away the cobwebs and makes way for the new!

A third book is due for release in July 2019. She is also a contributing author in Goddess when she rules by Golden Dragonfly Press, edited by Catherine L. Schweig (Dec 2017).
